Slow Down…to Enjoy Life

Vishal Khandelwal · May 11, 2013 · Leave a Comment

“There is more to life than increasing its speed,” said Mahatma Gandhi.

But in today’s times of power, wealth, technology and fashion, people seem to have forgotten that there is indeed more to life than increasing its speed.

They have forgotten that the true essence of life is to live it in the slow lane.

Of course, amidst the rat race all around and in a world where we have to be “seen” to be working, slowing down might seem an aberration.

But then it’s also important to understand that those who run too fast too soon often stumble.

So, slow down.

10 Ways to Live Happily Ever After

Vishal Khandelwal · May 3, 2013 · 4 Comments

  1. Love your family. Stay close to them.
  2. Make friends.
  3. Be optimistic.
  4. Take responsibility of your life.
  5. Do something you love every single day.
  6. Don’t search for happiness outside. Find it within you (yes, it’s there!).
  7. Don’t make happiness your goal. Just be happy!
  8. Just let go – of materialistic things, limiting ideas, and negative emotions.
  9. Live each day as if it were your last.
  10. Read about the child who lost her parents at a young age, then lived with terrible relatives, found it difficult to make ends meet, was diagnosed with a life-threatening disease, and died at a ripe age of 30. Realise that you are ‘relatively’ much happier.

You are amazing…and I wish you live happily ever after!

Three Most Beautiful Words

Vishal Khandelwal · May 2, 2013 · 1 Comment

Do you know the three most beautiful words in this world?

Okay, let me give you some hints.

  • These ring a bell when spoken together.
  • These involve the two most-closest people in the world, and the bond they share.
  • These are spoken ‘Wo ie ni’ in Chinese, ‘Ich liebe dich’ in German, and ‘Je t’aime’ in French.
  • These signify the willingness of the speaker to do anything for the listener, but without the former asking or wanting anything from the latter.
  • These imply a sense of completeness.
  • These create the ability within the speaker and the listener to see past their egos.
  • These bind us – as individuals and societies – together.
  • These don’t mean that the speaker won’t lie to the listener.
  • These don’t mean that the speaker won’t hurt the listener.
  • These don’t mean that speaker will provide for the listener.
  • These just mean that at the very moment of being spoken, when the listener looks into the speaker’s eyes, their hearts swell and beat faster.
  • These just mean that at the very moment of being spoken, the speaker’s and the listener’s souls are drawn to each other.

Just these three words!

I speak these to my wife and kids each day.

A simple…‘I love you!’

Have you spoken these words lately? If not, do it now!

You are amazing…and I love you!

My Friend Mohan

It was a usual day as I picked up my newspaper while getting ready for work. I was in a hurry so just glanced at the front page.

My eyes were struck by an advertisement, which showed a smiling man sitting in his office chair.

“Hey, I know him,” I said to myself.

I realized that he was Mohan, my neighbour for three years, and friend for ten.

Breathe

Life starts with a breath, and so does The Life School.

If you are reading this, it’s clear that you are breathing.

But do you realise that? I mean when was the last time you had ‘experienced’ breathing?

Breathing is the most critical action for us to live, and the easiest to do. You may not have all the happiness in the world that you desire, all the money that you strive for, or all the peace that you wish for. But you still have your breath.

So breathe.

Breathe to come back to the present from all the sad thoughts of the past and worries about the future.

Breathe to remind yourself how precious your life is.

Breathe to take a break from everything that’s troubling your mind and heart.

Breathe to realise that you have the best man or woman as your life partner, and the best child as your daughter or son.

Breathe to be present in the present.

Breathe to exercise, so that you may live a longer life.

Breathe to slow down. You may be running too fast and far away from life.

Breathing can change your life, which is too short to be wasted otherwise.

Thank God for everything you have…and breathe.

You are amazing!

Tip: Keep your PC’s screensaver as ‘BREATHE’ so that each time you return to it, you breathe. I do.
