The Polite No

Vishal Khandelwal · Oct 30, 2015 · Leave a Comment

A NO uttered from the deepest conviction is better than a YES merely uttered to please, or worse, to avoid trouble.

Saying YES where you want to say NO is being dishonest to the person who you’re committing to.

A wiseman once said, “I don’t know the key to success, but the key to failure is trying to please everybody.”

Have the courage to say NO, politely and with respect.

Happiness Isn’t Hard

The subject of happiness is a complicated one. However following 5 things contribute a lot in increasing your long term as well as short term happiness…

  1. Flexible schedule – A freedom to choose your work and also the time and place where you want to do that work is the biggest factor in reducing the stress and anxiety. Strive for a flexible work schedule.
  2. Imagination – An ability to imagine a better future or daydream about things that make you happy has a profound effect on happiness quotient. A healthy optimism is an important ingredient for creating a joyful state of mind.
  3. Diet – The quality of food that you ingest not only affects your health but also defines your mood and energy levels. Choose your food and its quantity very carefully.
  4. Sleep – Everybody knows that a good 7 to 8 hours of sleep is essential for maintaining good physical and mental health. But what’s ignored is that quality sleep is indispensable part of every creative artist’s routine. Sleep is nature’s mechanism of injecting silence, calmness and rest into human mind. Adequate sleep ensures adequate happiness.
  5. Exercise – Technically you only need two things for experiencing happiness – Serotonin and Dopamine. Physical activity creates both these hormones in abundance. So move your body and happiness will find you.

All your efforts in life should be directed to bring these factors into your daily life.

Happiness isn’t that hard after all!

Reducing the risk of the Unfulfilled Life

Being an entrepreneur is not about taking risk, it’s about eliminating all risks.

However, most of us have a distorted notion about risk.

A steady pay cheque isn’t necessarily risk free. It could prove to be the most risky option for your long term future.

Just like a steady return from a back fixed deposit looks safe but the moment you take the inflation into account, the safe deposit becomes a sure shot way to lose money over long term.

So risk doesn’t mean absence of volatility.

Working on something, even for few hours a week, that you love, that you find meaningful is the first step toward reducing the risk of ending up with an unfulfilled life.

The Power of Association

When you’re striving to live a meaningful, the importance of surrounding yourself with the right kind of people can never be overstated.

Seek people who make you want to become a better person, the kinds of people who are focusing on positive and good things in life.

It will inevitably rub off on you and before you know it, YOU will be the one that others are seeking out because YOU are leaving everyone better, happier, and more hopeful than they were before you found them.

That’s the power of association.

Learning to Pause

A wise man once said, “There is no point doing something efficiently which shouldn’t be done at the first place.”

In our speeded-up, frentic culture, we take comfort in being busy. This noise of unnecessary activity hides the voice of inner wisdom.

Most of the answers that you’re looking for are already present in your subconscious. You just have to create some space for it to emerge.

As the famous poet, Doug King, said, “Learn to pause… or nothing worthwhile will catch up to you.”
