“There is more to life than increasing its speed,” said Mahatma Gandhi.
But in today’s times of power, wealth, technology and fashion, people seem to have forgotten that there is indeed more to life than increasing its speed.
They have forgotten that the true essence of life is to live it in the slow lane.
Of course, amidst the rat race all around and in a world where we have to be “seen” to be working, slowing down might seem an aberration.
But then it’s also important to understand that those who run too fast too soon often stumble.
So, slow down.
Slow down the frantic pace of your life and start realizing the power of slowing down.
“How do I do it?”you may ask.
Well, here are some simple ideas to slow down that I recently came across in a site called “Slow Down Now”…
- Have a cup of tea, put your feet up and stare out of the window. Warning: don’t try this while driving.
- Ponder, take your time. Do not be pushed into answering questions. A response is not the same as an answer.
- Try to do only one thing at a time.
- Avoid too much seriousness. Laugh, because you’re only alive on Planet Earth for a limited time.
Simple for most of us to follow, right?
“But why should I slow down…” you may ask “…when I am happy living a fast life?”
Well, our failure to sit down and answer important question like these is what leads us to continue living life in the fast lane.
But then, just look at people around you and you find many who are living their lives always running behind time.
Then, you will also hear of many who die of a heart attack or in an accident rushing to be on time.
Look around you and you will see parents who, in the race to move ahead in their careers, have left their children’s childhood behind.
You will also find people who have ruined their relationships because they were chasing “something” in the future while not having time to live and love people around them in the present.
Please remember what the famous American comedian, dancer, and singer Eddie Cantor once said…
Slow down and enjoy life. It’s not only the scenery you miss by going too fast – you also miss the sense of where you are going and why.
Your life is too short to be wasted in the fast lane.
Slow down, enjoy the moment, and live longer.
Slow down, for you’re amazing!
